Intent

At Green Lea First School, it is our intent that the children in our Early Years develop a love of learning and the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. We value the individuality of each child and through meaningful relationships, purposeful interactions and a deep knowledge of the children and families, we enable them to achieve their potential.

 

Implementation

Our school provides an excellent foundation by offering a  progressive and cohesive curriculum which focusses on the prime and specific areas of learning, including oracy. Our rural setting is perfect for outdoor learning, which plays a key role in enabling our children to explore and understand the world around them. Our progressive curriculum is rich and stimulating, reflecting the issues and diversities of our society. We provide memorable experiences to build a secure, solid foundation for our children’s future learning.

Three prime areas are particularly important for learning and forming relationships. They build a foundation for children to thrive and provide the basis for learning in all areas. These are the prime areas:

• Communication and language

• Physical development

• Personal, social and emotional development

We also have four specific areas, which help strengthen and develop the three prime areas, and ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm.

The specific areas are:

• Literacy

• Mathematics

• Understanding the world

• Expressive arts and design

The learning and development of our children is informed by the best available evidence on how children learn and reflects the broad range of skills, knowledge and attitudes children need as foundations for life now and in the future.

 

Impact

By the end of Reception every child will make their own excellent progress from their individual starting points. We work in partnership with families, to promote the learning and development of all of our children to ensure that they have the right skills, knowledge and attributes for a smooth transition into Year 1 and beyond. We instil a love of learning and school into our youngest of children so that they grow to be happy, healthy and confident members of their communities.

 

Our 3 Age Phases are as follows:

• Reception- 4- 5 years old
• Pre School 3-4 years old
• Nursery 2-3 years old   

At Green Lea First School, we know that our Nursery may well be your child’s first experience of sustained contact with adults and children outside your close family and circle of friends. We hope to make the transition from home to school a positive and happy experience for children and their families.
